UHV Technologies, Inc. has recently started collaborating with TRIUMF, Canada's National Laboratory for Particle and Nuclear Physics, to produce new diamond like carbon foils with enhanced properties such as high-wear resistance. The new foils will ultimately lead to a decrease in down time during production of radiopharamceuticals in the cyclotron as well as decreasing the exposure time of personnel to radioactivity. The need for new DLC foils arose when a previous manufacturer stopped supplying TRIUMF as well an increased need for longer lasting foils to maintain structural integrity with higher beam intensitites in the cyclotron.
